VERY HIP BATHROOM VIGNETTES FROM APARTMENT THERAPY

If I could, I would combine all three of these designs into a dream bathroom! I'd take everything but the tile from the Etsy vignette, the mirror from rustic modern, and the two-tone glass pendant lights, the slate tile, the modern loo, and the Missoni rug from Eleanor's bathroom. Hmmm I wonder if I could photoshop that together for furture reference...

BROWN PAPER BAGGING YOUR TEXTBOOKS

What a throwback! Do you guys remember coming home from your first week of middle school and your only assignment was to take the old brown paper bags from Shoprite to cover and protect the schools crappy text books?!

Lately, I've been seeing a new trend of lining entire library bookcases with extravagant paper wrapped books, or even fabric wrapped. E. Lawerence is actually a vendor that carries books of all color bindings, from Metallic gold to fuchsia pink, but if you don't have the kind of money to shell out $36+ dollars on each book then I have a little idea. Why not get some high quality wrapping paper to cover your books? You can find anything from metallic wrapping papers to funky geometric prints. When I was at The Mansion in May, in Morristown this past month, I recognized a few designers using this technique. One in fact, did an entire library covered in paper wrapped books in black and white houndstooth. Paired with the right masculine accessories, the bookcase was a knock out. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures so I can't share with you :( But here are some fantastic examples! Enjoy your day everybody!!

I know, I know, this example doesn't show wrapped anything, but its a cool idea eh?

Suzanne Kasler did a whole room of orange, including books like this for Lee Jofa's fabric showroom in the D&D building.

SUPER DUPER LONG EARRINGS

I'm not a huge earring person. Usually if I'm wearing them on a casual occasion its some faux diamond studs, but every once and awhile I like to kick it up a notch and wear some dangly earrings. And lately I have been seeing some seriously long danglys. I'm thinking this is a hair down kind of idea.

HUDSON HOTEL NYC

I was recently lucky enough to stay at the Hudson Hotel in NYC, this boutique hotel was designed by the very talented Philippe Starck. I almost completely walked by the building entrance, you don't even realize the hidden gem of a hotel/bar until you reach the "lemon yellow" glass opening. As you enter the building you are greeted by what seems like an never ending escalator, but that's not the best part. As you get closer and closer to the top you catch a glimpse of the lobby which is basically a combination of glamourous treehouse and enchanted garden.

The never ending escalator and it's green "glow"

This lobby is actually turned into a bar at night, it was completely packed with people when we checked in.
magic treehouse hotel lobby
You can see the magical garden from every room on the main floor.

This is where we enjoyed the most delicious and priciest bacon I have ever had.

Right down the hallway from the main lobby is this incredible library/game area.

The outdoor area  looks so magical. at night.

The roof top area at night, I seriously want to have my next birthday celebration here.

and the roof top area is just as inviting during the day as well.

So, what are your favorite hidden gems in NYC?

BUILT-IN WALL UNITS DON'T ALWAYS HAVE TO BE WHITE

Lately I have been noticing a serious trend in high gloss, full colored built in wall units.

Thank. You. Design. Gods.

To me, color adds so much interest to a design. If we all liked Pottery Barn and Ballard Design (no offense to those great and successful establishments), than most likely it would be a very dull world. Not to say that there isn't something wonderful to say about a design that masters the monochromatic tone on tone look, but seeing a design with a library of magenta bookshelves can be so unexpected and exciting!

I'm not saying to go right in to your living room and start painting all your moulding neon green, but you could start slow with one small case piece in turquoise to complement your beachy theme. Or maybe even ease into a bit of color by trying black or gray on your built-ins, then popping the wall unit with colorful accessories and books.

Give it shot. Why not, right? When in doubt, you can always repaint!

AMY SIA LAPTOP SKINS

I have been searching for the perfect laptop skin since I purchased my latest MacBook.
I've never come across one that excited me and then it happened..
all these wonderful pinned images from Amy Sia
Each one is more beautiful than that last one. I can't decide on just one pattern...
I guess I'll just have to purchase a few more gadgets to cover these in.
